Math this week in Room 7:

Our math rotations this week focused on the following Common Core State Standards:

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.OA.A.1
Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.OA.C.6
Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.NBT.B.3
Compare two two-digit numbers based on meanings of the tens and ones digits, recording the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, and <.


In this math station, students added dice together. If the sum was even, the student would move the marker toward the "rescued." If the sum was odd, the student would move the marker down toward the "shark."



















We practiced comparing on IXL. If you want to continue practicing greater than, equal to, and less than, you can see skills G.1, G.2., G.3, and G.4 for First Grade.

Students worked on identifying number groupings between
 1-100.  They had to put the pieces on the correct location of the 100 chart. On the back, students had to fill in the board pieces without any clues. They had to use their knowledge of number recognition and place value to determine the correct location of the pieces.





                                       
 We practiced doubling a number and adding one.  We used our
fact fluency knowledge and counting on to find the correct number for the game.

 We used our problem solving strategies to answer addition and subtraction word problems. We create a picture to match the problem, create a number sentence, and answer the question.
