Today we learned that it is important to be thinking about what we read. It is more than just saying the words on the page.
Our class learned a new strategy where we use symbols and write down our thoughts on post-it notes when we read. We call this "Sticky Note Thinking." We use symbols like question marks (when we read something and have a question), exclamation points (when we read something is exciting or we learn something new), smiley faces (when something we read makes us happy), sad faces (when something we read makes us sad), LOL (when something we read makes us laugh out loud). Our modeled text was our read aloud, Magic Tree House #13 Vacation Under the Volcano. We learned that when we write down our thinking when we read, others can understand what is going on inside our heads!
