Stuffed Animal and Pajama Day in Room 7

Wow! Our class did it. We earned a celebration after filling our "Put Up Jar."
First, we had to decide what kind of celebration we would have at school on Friday.
We voted and created a graph. The celebration with the
greatest number of votes was pajama and stuffed animal day!

During Math, we used our stuffed animals to create another graph. This time we measured our stuffed animals with unifix cubes. We had to determine if the stuffed animal was shorter than 5 cubes, between 5-10 cubes, or longer than 10 cubes. After measuring our stuffed animals, we determined that most of our class brought in stuffed animals that measured longer than 10 cubes. There were no stuffed animals smaller than 5 cubes.

At the end of our school day, we brought out our furry friends again to compare by size. We determined the shortest and longest in our groups. Finally, we placed our stuffed animals in order from shortest to longest.

Measure lengths indirectly and by iterating length units.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.MD.A.1
Order three objects by length; compare the lengths of two objects indirectly by using a third object.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.MD.A.2
Express the length of an object as a whole number of length units, by laying multiple copies of a shorter object (the length unit) end to end; understand that the length measurement of an object is the number of same-size length units that span it with no gaps or overlaps.

Represent and interpret data.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.MD.C.4
Organize, represent, and interpret data with up to three categories; ask and answer questions about the total number of data points, how many in each category, and how many more or less are in one category than in another.
