This Week in Room 7

In ELA:

  • We will be comparing and contrasting the adventures and experiences of characters in familiar stories. 
  • With guidance and support, we will write opinion pieces which we introduce a topic, state an opinion, supply a reason for the opinion, and provide some sense of closure.
  • We will be working with /sh/ and /th/ final sounds.
  • We will be reviewing ar, or, er, ir, and ur sounds
  • We will be learning how to add the double final consonant before -ed and -ing ending.
  • We are continuing to read from "Lulu and the Brontosaurus" by Judith Viorst. While reading the story to the class, we are working on the following standards:

RL.1.2. Retell familiar stories, including key details and demonstrate understanding of their central message or lesson.

RL.1.3. Identify characters, settings, and major events in a story using key details.

RL.1.5. Explain major differences between books that tell stories and books that give information, drawing on  wide reading of a range of text types.

RI.1.4. Ask and answer questions to help determine or clarify the meaning of words and phrases in a text.
